Add to what rebeltaz83 says with the fact that yes, unloaded, the rear will sit a bit higher; it'll squat down as you load it.

Your shocks don't control ride height, but... If your shocks are bad your suspension will sag just a little.
the front is supposed to be lower than the rear so when the rear is loaded your front and stays level otherwise you'd be looking at the stars while driving

Just for the future -

Six point box wrench. Slip over nut. Wedge against fender, or put long pipe on it out the wheel opening.

Impact gun. Extensions to clear the fender. Put on tool in inside shaft. Drive the shock shaft DOWN (tighten direction) and shove it below the top of the nut.

Easy peasy once you get that box wrench braced ... or put a frelling long galvanized pipe on it! *grins*

Guess how I know that ...

Ive busted a lot of shock tops off with a deep wall 9/16 socket and long handle 1/2" drive ratchet. I don't even try to spin them off. especially here in the rust belt
and no, shocks have NOTHING to do with ride height. NOTHING.
I see blue replacement shocks. The only blue ones I tend to see are Monroe's "economy" series. I don't think they are even as good as new OEM ones would have been. I go with no less than middle of the road... in Monroe that would be the yellow "gas Magnums" Myself I like the Gabriel Ultra's. around me there is only 1 place to get Gabriel shocks. everyone else has KYB or Monroe.
Used to be everyone sold Gabriels around here. I have gotten my last couple of sets between EPay and Amazon. you can get a better grade shock for less than the cheapies cost locally. same amount of work either way, but you get what you pay for..... brakes and suspension aren't places to cheap out.
