Default 92 dakota shifting issue

So these days in having a problem getting in to gear with my 1992 dakota 4x4 with the 3.9l (problems starting too) I realize it's the shifter cable most likely, but is there a part number where I can replace it or is it something like bushing that needs replacing. Thanks in advance

Most likely the 25 year old bushings; do you have a copy of the factory service manual? If not, at least that part's the same even in the 1995 and 1996 manuals available at the FAQ here.

Dorman has the bushings; I'd try the dealership first.

Dorman 14041 - usually found in the HELP! aisle - is where I got mine.

Edit: Actually, there's no cable on the 1st Gens; it's all rods and pivots.

I have an fsm. (Just was out if town when I seriously began to think about it's current problem) I downloaded the parts guide but it's hard to go through all 2k pages on a crappy little phone. I will go look at it on a pc
