A/C evaporator coil
Not sure but I think I have a leak and would like to know how much work and where I can get directions to remove my dash and get to my coil and figure I might as well replace my heater core while I'm in there ,It is a 1994 slt extedted cab standard v6 ,,any thoughts or help on this such as a link to directions and diagrams would be helpful,,,,thank you
The dash is the same 1987 to 1996 save for a few details; pull the 1995 or 1995 factory service manual from the FAQ posting and follow that.
Good news! You only need to remove the bottom 1/2 dash.
Also, I'd consider the blower motor while it's apart.

Before you pull everything apart, make certain it's not the condensor coil in front instead of the expansion coil in the dash. Put some UV dye in and use a test kit to look for a leak. Bugs, rocks, soft drink cans and such hit your grill all the time on the road along with the occasional Deer. Nearly every time I've tracked down a leak, it was in the front coil where stuff hits it. After all, if it IS leaking in the dash, pull it apart. If it isn't, don't do extra work you don't need to do.
Thank you for the input, they said this was checked but I am not so sure as I remember hearing a hissing from the front of the truck when it was charged. Would I see any fluid inside if it was the coil inside the cab?
Not really. When refrigerant leaks out, it evaporates. It does have a smell but it isn't a strong one like hot coolant. Hissing could be a lot of things. If it's coming from the front of the truck, it might be a line or your condensor. Like I said, shoot some dye into the system to check where the leak is. You can get a small can of 5 shots of dye you just put on the low port and shoot into the system. Get one of the cheapie charge kits and charge it up. Get a test light kit and look for where the refrigerant comes out. I've got a Cadillac Escalade the previous owner told me had a leaky expansion coil. If was a line going to the rear a/c unit so I blocked off the rear lines and never touched the dash assembly.
Do your test and find out what the problem ISN'T, then go from there.

A couple of years back I replaced the EVAP core and heater core in my '95 3.9 V6 Dak.
