Default Parking Brake Pull Handle Again

I will never get over how manufacturer's use plastic for critical parts. This is the second plastic parking brake handle that split on me and came flying off. Is there a better solution? Thank you.

I welded a d-ring to the metal end of the cable. Even more ergonomic than the original haha.

Heh.

I like tbugden's fix.

However.

I think this is a good call for someone doing a custom billet job. Or at least develop a 3D print of it.

Sakes, how hard are you pulling? I don't think I've ever had the handle break.

Maybe lube the linkage? Something is not working right if you have to pull that had to release it.

Edit- If it isn't the under dash linkage, I have not looked at mine, I would guess that your cable underneath and the moving parts are rusted and not moving past each other easily.

I recently replaced cables, cleaned and lubricated all the mechanisms, ratcheting teeth, cables, etc. Not only that, I am pretty much a 98 pound weakling. With a 5-speed and 285,000 miles on the odometer, I don't think it is my fault but more likely just plastic giving way over time.

Cool

Yep, mine went too. The inside of the plastic handle is threaded and when the rear section cracks like that it loosens the threadgrip. After that, it's only a matter of time before it pops off.
I just welded a flanged nut to a piece of 1/4" bar stock and threaded it onto the rod. It won't break ever! Now I'm wondering how long before the plastic hood release handle comes flying off!

Fantastic, now that's the answer I have been looking for, thank you.

In the above photo it looks like the flanged nut is welded offset (not centered on the bar stock) and it also looks huge. Am I seeing things correctly?

I never use mine, even when I gad my stick equipped trucks I just shut them off in gear. My Ebrake handles never broke. but this part has been plastic, at least back to the 70s.

My 5-speed will slowly roll in gear on any incline if the parking brake is not applied. It rolls a little, stops, then rolls a little, stops, and repeat. I need my parking brake!
