Every time I tried to run just an external cooler by itself it would result in a very short time before the transmission would die. Guaranteed.
and on the bypass hose. Didn't you like just replace the whole engine? And along with that it didnt get a new bypass hose at the time for the whole $6 that it would have cost?

Like just about 40,000 miles ago, and it did. *le sigh*

I don't understand why it would die if the cooler is in the air stream of the cooling fan. By that logic, the A/C would quit when you stopped moving ...

I've seen the AC not working as well sitting in traffic. But yes, each time I try to bypass the radiator based trans cooler i've cooked the trans shortly after. So I still add that aux cooler, but I run the cooler lines thru both. I haven't tried to run one this way (external cooler only that is) since the 80s as I figured seeing 3 transmissions die shortly after bypassing the in radiator cooler that were working fine, not long before, (like over the course of a summer) I figured that was enough. Maybe if I had run a larger standalone unit? But I'm talking a Hayden cooler that they rated for a 14k pound motorhome in a 75 cordoba a 76 charger and then a 79 Aspen. No more standalone coolers by themselves for me.

I'm running 2 Hayden auxillary coolers, bypassing the radiator. Have to, it's part of the warranty on the reman trans I got. 400hp.....ish 360 Magnum swap in my 91d150. Be a year in March so far no problems. And I drive with a heavy foot. Wide open 90 percent of the time. My history with Mopar and auto trans is not very good. I've burned up every auto, and destroyed 2 manual trans........1 kinda was my fault, bearing siezed in a neon 5spd. Spit out the spider gears through the housing at 60mph.bearing was making some noise. except for 1, a 727 in a 68 Plymouth lived, now lives in a 92 Dakota with the 318 from the Plymouth. If this 46re goes, it's getting a 5spd or a 6spd tremec, pricy but the will hold up, it will be my last auto. I'll keep 05 2500 nv4500 going for along as I can. I'll swap the frame is I have to lol.

The radiator still radiates heat sitting, just not as much when it has air flow.
