Default Murphy Love Me Long Time!

That's not too bad; but I do wish he'd quit using Frank's Hot Sauce as the lube!

Today, while driving to Homer LA, I had two failures simultaneously (and I'm still trying to figure them out!)

Side note: I don't use the in-radiator cooler, I use the auxilary cooler I installed back when the transmission was overhauled, two or three years ago.

So. Driving to Homer LA from Bossier City LA, get out of Minden LA on US-79.

Transmission neutralizes and ...steam starts pouring out from under the hood.

Along with the transmission neutralizing, the bypass hose split wide open.

Damn, I SHOULD have done that water pump last weekend!

Replace the bypass hose (I had the new one in the truck for this weekend), and ... still no gears.

Have it towed home, still no gears.

As I said, Murphy Love Me Long Time. Just ... stop using Frank's Hot Sauce as the lube, m'kay???

Ralph, JMO, but I never liked bypassing the "in radiator" cooler. If stopped for long times, there is no air passing over the aux. cooler...... In time, that will lead to transmission failure... JMO
I prefer to go into radiator cooler first, then into the aux. cooler.
BTW does the fluid smell burned?

1) It's between the condensor and the radiator; if air's moving over them with it stopped, there's air over it also. Down here we have days that are 105F plus the heat index; makes more sense to not have it running in the radiator.

2) Nope, smells and looks good.

Your radiator etc. really doesn't care about heat index. Nor does it care about wind chill.

Being a HVAC contractor, and having a basic understanding of sensible heat and latent heat, I agree..... In short, if it dont sweat, sensible heat is all that counts.

I don't like a separate cooler for the transmission but at least you don't have to worry about the "pink foam" if the radiator pops. It's how the Ram 1500 in '02 was set up from the factory.

Now, I can swap a transmission but inside is a closed book to me. However, I'm thinking you've probably checked this but is the shifter linkage hooked up and working properly? I got one in the shop once that was a mid 70's GM car and the bolt had fallen out of the linkage at the transmission and it was in neutral with no shifter.

Well, it shifts in and out of park, and I can feel the detents ... but I've not crawled under the truck yet, no.

It's on my list for this weekend.

Yep, it's shifting at the transmission. Goes into and out of park fine too. So ... blown front pump.

That blows. Or sucks. Or doesn't blow or suck.

So now I get to decide how to fix it.
