Possible grounding problem
So I have a 92 LE extended cab here. When I start the truck, the Parking/Brake idiot light goes bright for a moment and then stays a little more than faint lit . I also have the left turn signal indicator remain lit when I turn the exterior running lamps on (including head lamps) however it does blink when the turn signal is engaged. I've looked at the dodge FSM and the clarity on grounds for things doesnt seem to be the greatest. Does anyone know if these all share a common ground, or what ground might be causing this annoyance?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
It does sound like the parking/brake light is "leaking" a ground. Is it the original bulb, a replacement incandescent, or a LED?
I would START by finding the proportioning valve and disconnecting the safety switch (for a test! RECONNECT WHEN DONE!!!!) and seeing if that causes it to go out.
If it does, there's the problem; if not, reconnect and disconnect the parking brake light switch at the parking brake. Again, if it goes out, there's your problem; reconnect after testing.
For the turn signal ... I would more think you've got a weak ground on that side causing it to float, bleeding current into the turn signal side. I'd start with the back bulb; pull the bulb, see if the interior bulb stays lit or not. Replace bulb; do the same on the front.
If you have a trailer adapter, check there also in case there's leakage there.
Also, do you have all incandescents, or some LEDs, or all LEDs? LEDs can cause some of these symptoms due to the fact they're highly polarized by nature, and you may have just enough leakage to light up a highly efficient LED but an incandescent would stay off.

Yeah that issue came and went the whole time I had my 92, about the time I'd have some time to look into it it fixed itself for a while then I would forget about it for a while. Never did do anything with it, all lights worked while the dash lights were doing their thing.
Maybe a long shot but I recently created a similar issue on my truck. I removed the bezel and dash to clean out 30 years of dust, replace bulbs and clean the connections to the circuit board. There is a thin foam seal between the two pieces that was totally deteriorated and crumbled and fell out. Now some of my lights will bleed over into others. The ones you mentioned are the worst offenders on mine also. I plan too buy some thin foam tape and try to fix the seals. Might be worth checking especially if the dash has been apart.
