Default Camshaft position sensor?????

Hey There, New thread for a new issue. I was attempting to remove the ignition pick-up coil so I could replace the dime size camshaft position sensor, and when I got the pick-up coil to come up, the small camshaft position sensor thing went flying. Now I have no idea where or how this sensor is supposed to go back in the distributor. Anybody, please help. This truck is becoming a huge thorn in my side.

Did you buy the new part? If you did you should have a disc about 3+ inches across with 2 or 3 wires coming out of it 12 inches or so long with a connector. You have to take the rotor off to lift the plate out. I don't remember if there is a screw holding it down.

Looking at page 8D-17 - is the part you're talking about there?

There's no separate disc, there's no screw, it just drops into place.

What the hell did you buy? *is confuzzled*

The cam position sensor (aka "distributor pickup coil") looks like this:

Yes, and I bought that. It’s on the truck. My sister was going to put the wires back on the distributor and we had it out because where firing order in book has arrow pointing and says front of truck with the two rows of plugs with distributor in back. She seems to think it’s wrong and was going to proceed to turn the book around how she thinks it should go so I cussed her out and told her to step away from the vehicle. I’ll do it later when she’s not here to aggravate me. She needs to hurry up and go back to California. 🙃

The arrow points to the front of the truck; but that's not where the rotor would point to.

Sorry you had the distributor out; that's going to complicate getting the truck back running.

There's notes here and elsewhere on getting fuel sync close.

Yes, I know that. I know more than most women and some men.😉 Got everything put together. Truck started and ran for about a minute and died. Started it again and it ran for less than a minute and died. It still needs something.

Ran for a minute is progress. Look up plenum gasket symptoms on here. See if any of that looks familiar.
