1995 Dakota No power at fuel pump after replacing
Howdy fellas .
I have a questions, this truck is driving me nuts. 1995 Dakota 4x4 3.9L ext cab . I replaced the fuel pump due to age and fuel sending unit not working, Tank went back in no problem but no power at fuel pump.
So far I have checked the green wire from the fuel pump relay to the fuel pump. Wire is good. I have also checked the power splice under the fuse box, its also ok. I have power to the ASD relay and I have power to the fuel pump relay but when I trun the key on or crank the engine I have no power on the green wire coming out of the fuel pump relay ?? I swapped the relays out , still nothing. I have power going into the fuel pump relay but nothing coming out when I turn the key on or crank the engine over. I have tried 3 relays all the same exact part number. How can this be please educate me lol Im lost

Should have power at two spots on the fuel pump relay, one is the main power feed, that gets routed to the fuel pump, the other will only be hot with ignition on, ground side for the is controlled by the PCM. It *should* prime the pump for three seconds at initial key on. Are you not even getting that? (keep in mind, you will only get power back to the fuel pump for a few seconds, then the PCM will turn it off, until it sees the engine turning via signal from the crank sensor.)
Welcome to DF! Moving this to first gen dakota section for ya.

I'd jump contacts B and D of the fuel pump relay and see if the pump runs.
Next, I'd check the crank position sensor and its wiring; if there's no crank signal, the ECU won't turn ON the fuel pump / ASD relays. So first step is to make sure power gets back to the pump and it runs, second is to find out why the relay's not being turned on.
If you want to just swap relays, you can pick up a pack of the Bosch relays off Amazon fairly cheaply (under $20; here's a package of 10 for $13 as I type this https://smile.amazon.com/ONLINE-LED-.../dp/B01KVZ2KEM )
Matter of fact, due to age, that's not a bad idea as a PM.

Hey guys , thanks for your advice. I got the fuel pump running. The ground wire that mounts the alternator bracket had a bad connector. NOW I have two new problems. Still no fuel gauge , low fuel light is on. When I ground the blue wire w/yellow stripe the fuel gauge goes to full. So do I have a bad ground or what.
ALSO, I just replaced the timing chain, truck ran great before but had the loud chain clatter. Now its running like crap, if you tach it up to say 1200 rpm and let off as it comes to an idle at will almost stall and its running rough. I scanned it and no codes, I took very extra care making sure the chain went back on just as the old one came off. Any advice on where to start would be greatly appreciated, I do not hear any vacuum leaks when its running
