Seat belt retractor question ?

Search seat belt cleaning or seat belt retractor (sp?) on YT and there are a lot of them.
My 94 doesn't grab when I pull it out, the old one was doing that like the old ones Ol' Grouch describes. it took almost a minute to get enough out to get it on sometimes. Cold seemed to make it worse. It does grab and tighten while driving when I have to brake hard.

to find out what kind of seatbelts, drive down the street at about 25-30 no more than 35 and slam down the parking brake, the brake lights will not come on so the computer will think you hit something and lock the belts before it picks up the park brake signal light (the instrument cluster is the last thing the computer checks when it thinks there's been an accident) they will only lock for about a second (just long enough for the computer to evaluate whether airbags are needed, determine that there is no body damage(99 or newer), and detect that the parking brake light is on)
I learned this trick from drivers ed, they said to do to when test driving a used vehicle that you want to buy, to make sure the seatbelts work. Don't go over 35 because the airbags could deploy in older vehicles that deploy SRS from sudden stop rather than impact (96 or before)

I don't know why Lator is suggesting that; the seat belt lock is only mechnical.
And the computer doesn't check the instrument cluster; for our trucks, it has no IDEA what the cluster is or has.
The ONLY interconnection is the tach; and it's driven off the ECU.
(Speedometer for 94-96 is driven off the VSS, which drives the ECU. Not the same thing as the ECU driving the speedometer.
