1988 Dodge Dakota - Hissing From Brake Booster When Brake Pedal Is Pressed
Hey there, guys,
Quick question. When pressing the brake pedal, does the brake booster make a hissing sound or somewhat of an airy noise for anyone else? The pedal is also somewhat spongy.
I'd assume the vacuum diaphragm in the booster is torn, but I figured I'd ask before I go changing it, and more importantly, fix it before the brakes fail while driving.
Thanks!

Sounds like the booster is toast.
Also, I'll bet the master cylinder is bad; the more common failure is that the master cylinder has a slight leak, and leaks brake fluid into the booster - which eats out the rubber.
I'd do both due to your cousin and mine, Justin Case.
Suggestion: To avoid an unsightly rust patch, mask and paint the booster and possibly the master cylinder.
