Hi All, as many others I am looking to do a manual conversion on my 92 Dakota 5.2L, (46rh transmission) and just collecting parts...I found a NV3500 from a GMC 1500 nearby for sale... would anyone know if this is compatible?...ie spline count, gearing, speedometer connection, anything else?....seems in this area finding a 1st gen Dakota V8 standard 2wd is hard to come by, so I’m considering all options, as well don’t really have space to have a donor truck sitting around. There are some newer dakotas (2nd gen), 2001-2003 I have seen but I’ve heard while the tranny would work but the speedometer connection is different and wouldn’t work w/o figuring out?. Thanks.
Thanks yes I remember reading that...seems there are more 2nd gen 5spds around here so maybe I’ll just consider one of those?.. all I read was more or less to do with the speed sensor location?.
If you can't find a nv3500, have you thought about using a ax15?
Its not quite as strong, but with a stock 5.2, and not really abusing it, I have read they do pretty well.
Honestly haven’t thought about that... but yes seems more of the V6 standards around here or if V8 then normally from a 4x4. The truck is geared for trailer package...3.92 rear end. Yes truck is all stock. Are the AX15 mostly just from V6’s?...

I4s and V6s until they started using the NV2500 or NV3500.
The I4 has a different bellhousing, but you can swap to the LA/Magnum bellhousing.
Which reminds me ...
This is posted on the Driveway Engineers page on Facebook:
Jeep/Dodge AX15 5-speed, the Jeep NV3550 5-speed, the Toyota R150F & R151F, the 87-92 Toyota Supra Turbo R154 and the Isuzu AR5 5-speed all share the same case to bellhousing bolt pattern. As such there are a number of possibilities that can be had when a 5-speed is desired:
So you might be able to swap in the NV3550 (which is also used on GMs).
