Not sure....... I think it just pushes in. Latter today, I will pull it and get better pictures.

Maybe it's supposed to be the fill plug? Fill to that point? Dunno, I don't see it mentioned in a quick scan through the FSM for my 1988.

Below are the pictures...... hole measures .35 in and is solid, no ring. The plug measured .38.
I would pull what you have out and see if there is a o-ring, if not put form a gasket on it and let it set for a day.
