Default Fuel pump voltage issue

1991 Dakota I replaced the pump with a new one. The pump will not run when ignition is turned on.(same as old pump) I checked the wiring voltages at the pump, all seem to be good (EXCEPT! the 12 volts for one second wire...) the volt reading goes haywire. Where do I look now?

You ARE aware that if the motor isn't running, the ASD or fuel pump relay (fed from the ASD signal) won't turn power on to it, right?

And by second wire - which color?

Do you have the wiring diagrams from the factory service manual by any chance?

If it's the same flat one that the 92 and up uses (and should be!), then the pump is the outer two; the inner three are for the fuel level sending unit. (See the diagrams from the 1995 factory service manual linked to in the FAQ for an example.)

Have you checked your fuel pump relay? Will it run when the FPR is bypassed with a jumper?

Do you have any spark while cranking the motor?
