Default Speedometer stuck at 120

Disconnected the battery then removed the instrument cluster in order to get to the gear shift indicator (P R N 2 1). When putting it all back together I noticed the speedometer needle was pegged at 120 and would not stay at zero when manually put there. Drove 20 miles and the needle didn't move. The 2nd and 3rd gen information I have found to reset the instrument panel doesn't work on 1st gen. Is there a procedure to reset the speedometer for 1st gen Dakotas and specifically for the '94?
Thanks

Look in the Sticky section of the 1st Gen Dakota forum. There is a thread that contains the 1995 field service manual. That may help.

The Speedo in the 94 is electric. For some reason I cannot copy from the CD pdf FSM I have. Too cheap to pay for Adobe It used to let me copy??
This is what it has for the speedo in the instrument cluster section Chapter 8E of the 94 FSM You can get one from Bishko for about $40 on CD.
Speedometer/Odometer system
The speedometer/odometer (S/O) system consists of an electric S/O and pushbutton reset trip odometer mounted on the cluster. The system also includes the Wire Harness from the cluster to the vehicle speed sensor at the transmission. A signal is sent from the transmission mounted vehicle speed sensor to the S/O circuitry through the wiring harness. Refer to Group 21-Transmission for selecting proper pinion, and selecting and indexing proper adapter.

These days, most browsers will open PDF files as well.

I have free adobe. The FSM I have on CD from the OE publisher can be read by it but I cannot copy/paste from it. I assume that is a function of not paying for Adobe.
I did not think to open it in the browser which I just tried and it did let me copy/paste. Thanks HY. Now I just have to remember to do that next time I need to copy from it.

Adobe *should* let you copy/paste as well, but, I think you have to use their controls for it...... been a while since I played with it though, so, might be wrong.
