Default 92 5.2L leaking Oil and ATF, tips on finding leaks

I have plenty of mechanical experience but I can always learn more. My Dakota seems too be leaking lots of engine oil, and some ATF as well. There's drops forming on both pans and I have to add engine oil almost every time I drive it. The trans fluid seems to be more stable but I know it's leaking. Anyway, just looking for tips or wisdom on where to look for leaks, things to replace and just general advice. Thanks!

Check the plenum (intake manifold) first. Crack the throttle wide open, peak down in there with a flashlight, see oil pooling? Time to pull the intake. Valve cover gaskets are also famous for massive leaks.... most of the oil burns off on the exhaust manifolds though, so it never reaches the ground. Front and rear main seals are another good source. For the trans, probably just the pan gasket.

Just remedied two oul leaks on my 5.2. Valve cover gaskets. The cover screws were loose. Probably could of just tightened them but I had new gaskets so I just replaced them. Second leak was at rear main seal. Works great!

Another option: get some fluorescent dye. Add to crankcase and/or tranny. Get the funky yellow glasses with black light and the leaks will light right up. Research this method on you tube. Pretty simple and effective.
