Default 1996 3.9, 42RE Stuck in second

Sooo.. im at my wits end here.

1996 Dakota 3.9L 42RE

Bought truck used 2mo ago. Had some shifting problems from 2-3. Would have to wrap it up to about 3k to get it to shift to third. Kick down cable adjustment seemed to help. Each time I adjusted the cable, shifting problems would return within a week. This happened 2-3 times.

Drove to work one day no problems. Get in to drive home and truck is stuck is second. P0753 & P0743

Replaced governor sensor & solenoid, TCC solenoid, and output shaft sensor. New fluid and filter. When fluid was changed it was clean and not burnt. No metal fragments.(wondering if guy before me changed it right before I bought it?) Still stuck in second. I can manually use the selector to shift into 1st and 2nd, but when I put it into drive it is stuck in second. It also has started getting increasingly harder to shift from park to reverse. I can’t find the transmission relay?? The svc manual says it’s in the PDC but the fan relay is in the place where the trans relay should be?

I have read about limp mode in these transmissions but I haven’t been able to find a clear answer on exactly what will cause this. I have the service manual that I got from this forum. Can’t find my problem in the diagnostic tables. Also can’t seem to find an answer past replacing the the components I have already replaced. TIA!!

Disconnect the 8 pin connector for the trans. Drivers side, about halfway back. This disables all the electronics in the trans. So, no automatic function at all, no TCC, and no O/D. Go for a drive, you will have to shift the trans manually. So, up/down shift as appropriate. If the trans goes into the gear you tell it to, when you tell it to, then you still have an electronics issue. If it doesn't...... rebuild time.

Will give it a shot. I forgot to mention, I can manually use the selector to shift into 1st and 2nd, but when I put it into drive it is stuck in second.
