Default Let me fix er boss.....

So I thought I found a part a few years ago and bought it. The tail end for the spare lowering. I had never seen mine or tried to lower it because its a major chore because the stock tool for it slips every 1/4 turn unless you are pressing very hard. . That us why I wanted to replace it...The new piece was 12 inches long or so. procrastination later this morning I get under there this morning and find the set up is a two piece affair with a dog leg. Always being positive I tried to get the other one to fit. when I did it was wedged so tight... I cleaned up the old one, sprayed white lithium grease in the cable housing and put it back together. So if anyone else has a short bed check the set up before buying a part on the word of a site you never used before. :/ Helps to have a small box wrench to turn that durn thing too.

DOH!- The tool I used, two rods that had the hex end on it. The FSM describes using the lug wrench to lower the tire!!!!! Never used the jack I wonder what those two rod pieces with the hex ends are for then?????? Oh Well off to clean the EGR.

Cool. I hammer a 14mm socket on the end of the shaft for mine. Although it does slip at times. I have some aluminum flat stock I plan to drill a hole then square it out with a file. Then I'll add a handle to work it like a crank.

I gave it the college try. I even cut the new one and drilled a hole for the cotter pin but the OE end piece has a bell shape to it to allow for the dogleg. I didn't have any tools to be able to do that to the new one I cut.

I would always use the rod for the jack with hex on one end. It was a pain cause id have to crank it up by hand. Of course there is a double sided hex i could just slip a wrench on.

Just finished this section and had to re-watch it. Really easy, but the feeling and the scale made this a particularly memorable moment.
