Omg its alive again...my fix to the crank, no start issue...read this!!!!
SubscribeOMG ITS ALIVE my 95 Dakota 3.9l IS ALIVE!!! Just like many of you I to have had the pleasure of trying to get my dakota to start up again after just 1 day not starting. This is the second time now that this has happened to me since i inherited it from my gpa. First time was 4 months not starting and this time 2 months. Luckily we got it figured out before winter hit unlike last year! Mind you my truck is a 95 3.9l 4x4 with only 138k miles on it, so to be having these issues just blew my mind. Anyways I too replaced crankshaft position sensor 3 times(1 faulty), PCM 3 times(1 faulty), the ignition coil 2 times(in a year), pickup coil(2 times), distributor, rotor, plugs, wires and all other possible culprits i learned off this forum like the splice! Both times it has been in the wiring. DODGE SUCKS FOR THEIR WIRING CORROSION ISSUES. Anyways if you have done all the same things i have and it still won't start CHECK YOUR SPEEDOMETER SENSOR AND THE WIRES TO IT. Down near the transmission! THATS WHERE THE PROBLEM WAS THIS TIME. We undid about 2 feet of the wiring tape stuff from the sensor and omg it was HORRIBLE!!! Fixed those up And BAM SHE LIVES!!! RUNNING LIKE A CHAMP!!!! HOPE THIS SAVES SOME PEOPLE SOME TIME AND MONEY!!! If the obvious isnt working then in my opinion its in the wiring!!! And for those of you wondering about PCM stuff, I bought one from autozone and it worked fine the first time this happened then bought the same exact one when it did it this last time and turned out to be faulty so i got one off ebay(WAY CHEAPER, SAME PART NUMBER) and its working just fine!

I saw your reply to my post about this. I was thinking what does the speed sensor wiring have to do with this but with other engine control wiring interacting with the speed sensor wiring I could see it being a problem.
I will jack it up and look into the speed sensor wiring tomorrow.

Hey group. Here's my story. 1999 Dak 5.2 (bought it new). Never had a problem. Recently won't start. Tries but only firing on a couple of cylinders, backfire and won't start. I put a heater under the motor (thinking it was a moisture problem in the wiring). Left for several hours and it started up like a champ and ran great. However, the next day was back to no start. So, heater again and it started OK. Can't carry a heater around with me. Thinking wiring or maybe the crankshaft position sensor likes the heat. It's in the garage now and back to not starting. Have any of you have a similar experience? I guess I need to check all the wiring before changing sensors (camshaft or crank). BTW, it did set a P1391 code (camshaft sensor) once but not all the time.
Another question, since the Mopar Crankshaft Sensor 56027871 is discontinued and I've heard horror stories about aftermarket ones, can anyone recommend a brand to buy that works and will keep working.

I got a BWD several years ago and have not had any trouble yet. Wait for other answers and weigh them out. Also check EBay for NOS OEM. Originally Posted by vic392
