Default 1991 dodge dakota coolant temp sensor problems

Long story short someone told me that a bad coolant temp sensor could be causing my roughy running/idle problem, (my truck also showed other symptoms of a bad temp sensor) so i replaced it, when i went to go start my truck the temp gauge crashed and bottomed out, so i took it around the block (maybe 2 minutes of driving) and got back took the sensor out and set it to the side and let it cool off but after about 10-15 minutes it was still REALLY HOT, too ol hot to touch, any solutions or fixes???

Your truck has two temp sensors. A one wire sensor for the gauge, which looks like it may be hooked up backwards in your pic..... and a two wire sensor for the PCM.

I don't recall if resistance goes up or down with temp..... Unplug the sensor, see what the gauge does.

That particular sensor has absolutely nothing to do with the ECM. The gauge gets its reading directly from the sensor. Unplug the sensor, what does the gauge do?
