AC Metal Gasket Install Help Needed
I have a 1987 Dodge Dakota with a 3.9L V6 engine and factory air conditioning. I changed the Receiver/Drier but am having great trouble sealing the metal lines to it. I have the proper metal gaskets.
The Chrysler Tech at AAPAK in Phoenix said to follow the following steps to guarantee no leak:
1. Thoroughly clean the surfaces using alcohol to ensure no oil remains.
2. Do not use a sealer or lubricant of any kind. Install dry.
3. Make sure the protruding end of the gasket faces the Receiver/Drier.
3. Tighten the nut enough to be snug and then tighten about a quarter turn more. Overtightening will cause the gasket to flatten, potentially leading to a leak. There are no torque specs he is aware of to tighten it just right. I cannot find such specs in the factory shop manual.
I would appreciate any comments or suggestions anyone has before I possibly waste the last of my R12 through leakage.
