The shotgun approach generally works, but then, you are left with the mystery of what actually fixed it......
Wires don't 'wear out', they may be subject to corrosion, but, aside from that, they are essentially forever. Maybe a bad connection at one of the crimps? Or something equally as mundane??? Who knows.
