Your rockers should be fine, if they were getting oil. The lifters, on the other hand, if they were installed with the oil holes pointing the wrong way, that might be an issue.....

Im not sure if they were getting oil to be honest, I never ran the engine with the covers off with the old set of lifters. The new set all of them have the hole up, I verified that like 10 times before I installed them lol

Should be good then. Swap out the pushrods, see what happens.

Do you think I should go with 7” or with 6.950” to account for the decking? Or am I over thinking how much was actually cut

Will .005" make that much of a difference? No clue how much they take off when decking the block, but, I would bet it is bare minimum to get a flat surface..... Go with the 7" fellers, and see what happens.

I might try a compression test after installing them, to make sure they aren't holding the valve open, when they should be closed.

Good idea lol, i think I’d also be able to tell if it was making compression from the sounds it makes when I turn it over by hand. All of the PSHHH noises you can hear as you turn it over, that and the rebound on the ratchet on the crank pulley

So I got the pushrods in, clacking is still there. I can’t tell if it’s a placebo but it sounds quieter, but it could just be in my head.

Here’s a before and after:

BEFORE:

AFTER:

Vacuum is still the same, and engine still runs the same, so I don’t think it’s an over-preload issue. The screws took about maybe 2.5-2.75 turns from hand tight to be torqued down, so I’d estimate that’s around the right preload.

I guess my next step is to see if I can get my old stamped rockers on and see if it makes the sound go away, in that case it would just be bad rocker arms.

In the second vid, it sounds like just one..... or maybe it is just quieter with the valve covers on. Old rockers are worth a shot.....
