Noise in Tranny
I have a 1988 Dak with the 3.9 anyway, just had the tranny rebuilt and ever since I have got it back there has been a noise or rumble upon accellerating, Took it back guy said it was torqur converter not tranny, said it wasn't getting enough fluid to it, ever heard of this, I thought that without fluid no movvy. Any help would be appreciated
This is tru. Whoever rebuilt it, should have put in a new torque converter or you should have bought one. IF its not getting enough fluid, then either something is wrong with the front pump (which is his problem depending on how long its been) or your cooling lines are clogged, which should have been flushed by whoever put the tranny in. A rumble so to speak is hard to diagnose over a forum, but like I said depending on how long ist been, it sounds like you need to take it back to him and tell him to stop bull****tin you. But you need to indeed make sure its the trans first. Make sure the cadilytic converter is not rattling or some other exhaust tube. Make sure its not a heat shield or somethin stupid, and then take it back to him. Good Luck.
upon rebuilding your trans you should have had the cooler flushed out. not doing it will smoke a transmission. just from experience. the rumble you are feeling could be torque converter shudder, he should have sold you a converter and front pump on the rebuild along with whatever else you needed. would take it to another shop and get a second opinion. the guy evidently didnt tell you everything you needed to know and made a quick buck. now he has you coming back to pay him to put in the conveter and pump ( if either of those werent installed new) and a cooler flush. sorry that has happened to ya, some people are shady like that.
