Oil light PLEASE HELP
Ok so im driving home last night..
And im coming to a red light, my oil light comes on.. and pressure drops to like nothing as this is all happing, the light turns green so i start to pull over, the light goes off, and pressure shots back up.... I have a oil pressure gauge as well and they both were faling..
So im driving at 40mph and everything is fine.. oil pressure is constant, next red light, i slow down and as i just go under 15mph the light goes on again, and then pressure drops.. im like wtf i go to pull over .. and it goes back up..
Then i come to the next red light assuming its going to drop.. Nothing happens it stays fine till i get home.. i park my truck, turn it, off, turn it back on.. pressure is normal.. WTF is going on ???? any idea? sensors? oil pump???
Thanks guyz

i had the same problem on the weekend with my truck, i put half a litter of dextron tranny fuild in with my oil ran it for 10 mins changed the oil and filter and my oil pressure is better then ever. my problem was i had alot of sluge in my motor, and the dextron gets out the sluge
I just got an oil change , ends up it was a little low on oil..
But i still dont know , why the pressure dropped to zero, then back up??? i have a fuel pressure aftermarket guage, and the line looks clogged with like oil bits so im going to clean that out.. and see what else is up..
ANyone else have any insite?

Sludge. Known problem with these trucks as they get older. The pickup screen is a little on the small side and will get partially clogged with sludge. When you slow down the oil in the pan moves forward, and the pickup will lose pressure for a split second. Happens more frequently when oil levels are low. I have heard the Dexron trick will help clear it out. If that doesn't work you are looking at pulling the pan and do a manual cleaning or maybe hooking up to one of those oil detergent machines. I have no experience with them though.

So when i do an oil change i put the Dexron threw the motor and let it drain right out correct??? then put fresh oil in?? IM not fimaliar with the Dexron ****..
LIke i said i just got an oil change and its working fine now.. so maybe when i need a new change, ill do the dexron and run it threw so it clears out the screen.. but is that how i should go about doing that??
Thank you for all the help guyz
Mine does the same thing. I've kept the levels up, use good oil with detergents, but still have the problem. My truck has over 230k miles on the original motor. In 2wd form, the oil pan isn't a huge deal to do. In 4x4, you either drop the front suspension or pull the motor to do it. When I get around to rebuilding the motor, it'll all get cleaned out. I also use a heavier weight of oil. It helps.

you dont actually have to drop the suspension to do that. all you have to do is loosen the motor mounts and manage to jack the motor up from the front. its gonna be a pain no matter what though. and if youve gone that far you might as well just buy you a new oil pump and pick up tube.( oops didnt see the 4x4 up there sorry, havent done one on those.) i would say that if the prob persist pull the pan get ya a new pump and tube and check your bearings while down there for slack.
