I've read alot about people puting the 360 in and leaving the 3.9 auto tranny in but no one seems to want a manual. I have a 3.9 right now with the 5 speed and i assume that it can hold the 360's power but i'm not sure, what do you guys think. if i do get a 360 i expect i'll only rebuild it and do intake and exahust nothing to special. I also read somthing about the flexplate being different what do i need to do about that on a manual? Thanks

The manual wil hold the 360. The auto trans will if you keep it cool. The flexplates on the automatics are different depending on years. On 95 back automatic flexplates, one of the torque converter bolt holes is off center. 96 up stuff, all 4 holes are at 90 degrees to eachother. You need to match it to what year torque converter you have. This applies for 3.9L, 318's and 360's. The difference for the 360 is it has a weight on it to balance the motor.

was going to do the same with mine but was quiclky inlightened on the subject. unless you are going to do just normal driving and never get on it so to speak, it will do in a pinch. but for fast launches it could spin the input shaft right out of it. that is why i went ahead with the auto instead. these were seasoned tech telling me this also. ive had to put my swap on hold for a minute. found a 25000 mile 3.9 dirt cheap. will give me some more time to do some things that i really want to do with my 360 rt motor.
