Default Tranny problem, slips when going into gear.

I recently bought a 95 Dakota 2wd with a 318. When I put it into gear either reverse or drive, there is a bit of a delay and then it goes in to gear and then it's fine. Does anyone have any ideas? I was told it may be the torque converter or maybe the bands may need to be tightened.

Thanks
Daryl

More than likely it's the bands. I've heard of more band problems then converter.

mine does the same thing. like onebadkota said, probably just the bands (particularly the rear band) need to be adjusted.

My truck was doing the same thing and was bad enough that when i stopped at a light or something, it would not even be in gear seems like and have to give it gas to catch. I changed the trans. filter on it, flushed the tranny fluid, and added some trans stop slip(lucas) and it has never done it again. That was about 30,000 miles ago.
