Default oil pump advice

ive got a 91 4x4 318 that i just got done putting a radiator in.it wasnt that hard to figure out except the fan clutch can be a pain to change.my hardest problem was the damn serp belt .even though thats simple it took me like 30 mins to put it on course it was hot outside and i had already cut myself on the damn fan so maybe i wasnt thinking to clearly.anyway back to my post.my next project is to replace the oil pump and pickup tube.ive never done this before but im pretty handy at figuring things out and following the manual plus i have plenty of tools.does anyone have any advice about doing this job and anything unique that i should also do while i ve got the pan off. thanks

Default RE: oil pump advice

It's been awhile since I've had my stock motor, but I think to do the pump and tube without issue is to loosen the motor mounts a big and lift the motor up some... enough to slide the pan out under the pickup tube. While it's off and replacing the tube, check for any sludge buildup or any junk inside.. when putting it back on, I'd recommend a coating of Black RTV, hi-temp oil resistant over the gasket for a better seal.
