$wd wont engage.
Hey, my 4wd wont engage on my 1990 3.9. The 4wd light comes on, but it wont go in. Could this mean a bead transfer case? I could hear it try to go in but it just doesnt. I know i need to replace a right CV joint, but i dont think this could be causing this
Condition: T-Case Difficult to shift or will not shift into desired range:
Possible causes: (1) Vehicle speed too great to permit shifting (2) If vehicle was operated for extended periods in 4H mode on dry paved surface, driveline torque load may cause difficulty. (3) T-Case external shift linkage binding (4) Insufficent/incorrect lubricant (5) Internal components binding, worn or damaged.
Correction: (1) Stop vehicle and shift into desired range or reduce speed to 2-3MPH before attempting to shift (2) stop vehicle, shift tranny to neutral, shift t-case into 2H and operate vehicle on 2H on dry paved surfaces (3) lube, repair or replace linkage bushings or tighten loose components as necessary (4) drain and refil to edge of fill hole with Mopar Dexron II , Mopar-Mercon, or ATF Plus (ATF Plus has been replaced by AFT+3 and recently, ATF+4) automatic transmission fluids. (5) disassemble unit and replace worn or damaged components as necessary.
Instructions for adjusting the shift-linkage are included (picture). sorry about the quality, but, I don't have a scanner, so I took pics with my digital camera... yea, oh well, it works!

my girlfriends dads 92 has the same problem it could be the linkage not adjusted right or a bad spring that hold it in because on his if you physically hold the lever hard into the 4 wheel drive it will work it just isnt going back far enough
