Clicks as in a single click and thats all? I definitly suspect a bad starter.
I have a DIY for that.

 

what about the boom and knocking? from the starter and if so y did it die ?

 

i'd put try turning the motor over by hand or with a socket on the center balancer pully if it don't budge then its probably the motor...or you could pull the starter and then hit the key and see if the motor will turn over then...the click could be the starter engaging but can't turn it over because of a spun bearing or something...also take off the serpintine belt i've seen where the alt. has locked up and stopped the motor before...i highly dout the motor came out of a 93 because the head bolt angles are different between the magnums MPI and the Premagnum the TBI...if its 91 it should be a TBI enless its a late 91 which then they could of stuck a MPI engine out of the 92 line up....is it Throttle bodied or Multi Port injected...

 

the engine is a 318 mag or atleast that is what the water pump is for and also this truck is a 5-lug and i have never seen a 5lug dakota in this body style can aneyone shine some light on this? because i thank my shelby was a 5lug but i cat remember
