Default v6 to v8 thottle body swap--idle problems

Hi guys, first post here and i have a problem, vehicleis 96 dakota

Ok, i just got done swapping to a stock v8 throttle body onto my 3.9 v6, feels like some more power all around, so thats good---track testing will show the truth though. Now, my problem.......

The truck idles excessivly high. It'll idle at about 900 upon startup and work its way up to about 1200---far to high for a stock v-6. What can i look for to solve this? Thanks

I dunno. Sometimes idle speeds vary. Mine usually idles around 700-900, but sometimes as low as 500. It flucuates from day to day, which is perfectly normal.
My guess would be: a V-8 throttle body on a V-6 would = more air going thru the TB at idle, which would = higher idle speed. I can't verify however, but thats my guess.

The holley idle air valves are known for gumming up. Take the motor off the back of the Throttle body and look in to the back. It does not matter how big a throttle body you use. The idle should stay constent whether its 700 800 or 1000. I can not remember the process but there is also a way to force the computer to reset the idle speed.

Thats what I would do, give the ol throttle body a good doucheing. Pull it off the engine, take as much of it apart as you feel comfortable with and hit it with the old gum cutter. I acctually use brake parts cleaner, seems to do a lil bit better job and evaporates a little quicker. Then I lube up the shaft for the butterflys and slap it all back together. Make sure you blow the cleaner thru all the little vacuum ports and get it real good around where the idle control is located.

Should help out.
