Few q's about my 92 dakota
Ok, I have a few quick questions. First, do i have to use the fuel filter that is intended for my truck or can i just use an alternate filtr? The damn thing is like 25 bucks!! Second, what is the point of a 180 thermostat?
Thanks
Thanks
I would use the one that it calls for but I dont see why if you found one like it cheaper you wouldnt be able to use it. I use a 180 degree thermostat. It keeps the engine cooler which means a little more power and a slight less chance of detonation. I wouldnt go lower then 180. Under that the computer goes into fuel enrichment mode. Yeah it means more gas into the engine, but your fuel economy will take a dive. Your comp will prolly also set a code. It will think the engine isnt up to temp.
The lower you keep the engine temp, the more energy you are lossing though the rad. The more heat you keep in the motor the more energy to make HP with. But becuase these motors are very thin casting you can end up with hot spots. If you look down in to a pot about to boil you will see bubbles forming. When this happens in a motor the water is not touching that spot and the temp there will go way beyond the temp of the water. Sooner or later it will crack. Keep the temp away from the flash point and the water wont seperate from the surface.
