Hey all yall mopar nutz I have an interesting problem, this morning I was warming up my Dakota and all of a sudden it just dies...I mean it's running fine then it was like the key was shut off it took about 20-25 minutes of sitting before it was ready to start after some coaxing she fired off.My question is this what could cause this? She's an 87 Dak LE 3.9.......any help will be apreciated..
Hmm.. a loss of electricty to a relay? Loss of power to the coil/fuel pump/etc. etc.
Next time this happens, check to see if the motor is getting spark. Than check to see if its getting fuel.
okay I was thinking, over this past weekend I ews checking things out under the hood and discovered that the smog pump has been removed the hoses that went to it were restricted but not blocked off. Thinking that this could make my 02 sensor think the truck was running lean thus loading it up I ran a hose from one side to the other thus effectively blocking both hoses. Now here's my thought,I'm thinking that the 02 sensor is now reading a rich situation and leaned the engine out to the point that it stalled. Is this possible? I'm not sure since my engine is a 3.9 2bbl
okay I just changed the fuel filter and discovered the old one was in backward! I was under the impression that that was impossible, yet there it was as backward as it could be...I'll keep y'all posted!!!!!!!
I don't know if the filter was the problem but I just went for a ride and no stalling or hesitation maybe this was the "easy fix"although she still smells like she's running really rich,I'll have to see if I can adjust the carb...
I know this sounds crazy, but is you battery good? My truck will start just like it has a good battery in it and not run but for just a little while. So check it and see b/c i was baffled for a while until i figured it out.
