Brake Pedal Just stays on the Floor?
I've been outside playing with my New (used) `92 Dakota and I just have another question, I wanted to say thanks for the bands adjustment stuff Im gonna do that this week and get the tranny goin all good and everything. But anyways right now I am just trying to figure out the brakes issue. The pedal goes all the way to the floor and does not raise back up at all just stays at the floor. Now the Dakotas have vacuum assisted brakes? Or I was wondering if it might be like the master cylinder or anything. I filled the resivoir up to the top and tried pumping the brakes to see if I could get the pedal hard or anything and nothing happened it just stayed at the floor I am thinkin it might need a master cylinder or something. Just wanted someone elses opinion or maybe someone else knows alittle more about these trucks than I do since this is my first one to own.
Thanks,
Joe

How much fluid did you have to add? Before you added the fluid, could you see any in the reservoir?
Yes, the Dakotas have vacuum assisted brakes (the big circle-ish object behind the master cylinder), but I think a bad brake booster would just make braking action hard.
I would suspect a leak some place. It could also be internal master cylinder leakage.
Look for any leaks any place and take the appropraite action.

bad brake booster could make it fall to the floor like you're talkin about...i had a 87 dakota got it runnin in the shop held the brakes and started it...(didn't have the linkage to the tranny hooked up at the time) well it was in gear jumped forwards stomped on the brakes and they went to the floor....i luckly didn't hit any thing valuable...replaced the booster and worked perfect...
