Default Dakota purchase tale of woe

I bought a '95 shortbed 4x4 5.2 auto. As is no warranty. I try the 4x4 the next day and it sounds like someone is banging on my truck with a hammer. Major click pop bang[:@]. I know I was a dope for not trying the 4x4 at the lot...the guy said it worked fine, everything works, he was either sincere or he is a Clinton caliber liar. I called him and he said bring it back and we'll check it out, he is looking at the vacumn line.... He says drive it the weekend and see if I can get it straightened out, if not call him. I ran it by a 4x4 shop and the guy said chain/case issue $800 to $1000.

1) I know I was a dope for not trying the 4x4 at the lot!

2) the dealer is basically off the hook as I bought the truck as-is.

3) Any suggestions (even "hey your a dope").

4) The headlights....low beams real dim, hi beams fine, hi beam blue light stays on all the time when lights are on.

5) brakes scrub in reverse.

6) otherwise the truck is really nice, clean and rust free. Engine purrs like a tiger kitten.

Welcome to the forum.
1, 2) Everyone who has bought a vehicle has had the same feelings, "I should have brought this up, why didn't I?" or, "Why didn't I look at that before I bought it?"
3) Sometimes dealers can be reasonable. Of course, lots of times their jerks to deal with. Just start by being Mr. Nice and if they fail to cooperate, turn into Mr. Mean. Technically you are correct. You bought it "as-is, no warranty" and therefor, they don't have to do diddly-squat for you. Of course, see if they will do anything for you.
4) You can do a voltage test to determine if possibly the low beam circuits are experiancing excessive resistance. The headlamps may also be misadjusted (since you said the high-beams are good, I would tend to believe the ground is good). As for the high-beam indicator being on, its probable that is shorted to a wire thats hot when any other lights are on.
5) My grandpa had this problem, and I can't remember what exactly the solution was. I think he just replaced the rear brakes, maybe even the drums... 5-6 years does wonders on your memory [&:].

Nice to see another Gen 1 owner on here. Hope your problems can be fixed easily.

just for your information...As with any contract you have 72 hours to back out, technically this is called buyers remorse and by the dealer telling you to drive it the weekend he gets the three days,so you're bound by the contract. The dealer may be human and offer to help with the repair then again you could get the shaft on the deal.I just thought you would like to know...

I hope things go well and we'll see you more in the forum...........................
