Default Fuel Tank Size

I have a recently accuired '93 Dodge Dakota truck, extended cap, 5.2L engine. Does anyone know what size the fuel tank is typically on these trucks? The prior owner doesn't know, and all I could find in the owner's manual is that there are two possibilities, either a 15 gal or 22 gal fuel tank. I don't know which one I have, but if it's only 15 gal, that means I have to fuel up about every 150 miles as opposed to 250 miles if I have a 22 gal fuel tank. I don't especially want to drive it till I run out of gas to find out, and I can't go by the fuel gage as it registers empty after about only 50 miles or so!

Call up the dealer, give them your VIN # and they can tell you. If for some reason they won't tell you, just call another dealer.

Fuel gauges never seem to work in 92-on (magnum-engined) Dakotas, that's weird. I would venture a guess that it has a 22gal since it's a 318.

15 is square at the front and the 22 has a small step to clear the cab

pull the bed off and pull the pump and make sure that the float is in the right spot.

Pulling off the bed isnt going to help. Its common knowledge that the Gen1 Dakotas fuel guage is notorious for going out. Its the reostat that goes bad on them. The only way to fix the problem is to replace the whole pump itself, I have heard of people cleaning the contacts on the sending unit but that could be a risky situtation

well when my 92 dak had fuel gauge problem it was because the float was stuck....same with my dads 94 and same with my uncles 94 so its worth a shot..i've replaced the just sending unit..you'll have to drop the tank or pull the bed to fix it anyways. so it really wouldn't matter

could be for some but we have an overhead hoist wich makes it easy plus we can drive it around to make sure everything will work before we put the bed on.
