Default 1989 Trans problem

Can someone help me please.....I have a 1989 Dodge Dakota v-6 automatic...I don't know how many speeds and there is a over drive switch on the dash.
The problem I'm having is: When the truck is cold (ie has been sitting for 3 or 4 hours), It will not shift out of first gear whether I have it in drive or try shifting manually. Now....If I let it warm up to operating temperature it still doesn't shift. But....If I drive it around the block for 10- 15 minutes and/ or about 3-4 miles, manually shifting as I go...it will eventually start to shift to 2nd when I do it manually and then will eventually shift to third when I shift to drive....once I have gotten it to do this....It shifts fine when I put it in drive...So after this long warm up procedure having it it Drive works just perfectly for as long as I'm driving it ...that is untill I turn it off and it sits for a couple of hours or more....The trans fluid looked fine but I changed the fluid and filter anyway....I used ATF+4....after a few more days of no improvement I put in a can of some trans stuff that is supposed to clean gummed up or sticking parts...It is still acting the same...HELP!

Don't you mean 4 speed overdrive (4th speed being overdrive).

Here are instructions for adjusting bands (you have the 42RH, follow the instructions for the 42RE)
