Default Dodge dakota 1995 V6 3.9L 5 speed won't stay running

I have a 1995 Dodge Dakota Sport 3.9L 5 Speed. It has been stalling most of the time when I stop (restarted right away). Check engine light comes on and codes it gives are for a speed sensor and the map sensor. It has no speedometer. Recently it died as if out of gas. Put in gas and it started after 10 minutes or so. Drove it a few minutes and it died again. Sat awhile and drove few more minutes and died again. Fuel pump seems okay (can hear it ) Fuel relay sensor bad so replaced, but same problem? Help.

Did you replace your speed sensor and map sensor?

No I haven't. The map sensor is next on my list, but I was told the speed sensor is basically the speedometer and I don't have the speedometer connection to the transmission. If that's not true where is the speed sensor. I'm having a hard time believing all these sensors/relays went bad at the same time, but i hope so, because it's cheaper than a fuel pump.

There isn't a typical speedometer cable. At some point, it was replaced with a electrical unit. The speed sensor is located on the back of the transmission (2WD) or transfer case (4WD).

Thanks for the pic. It helps.

Does anyone know where the map sensor is? It's a 2wd and the manual I have shows various locations ( on fender or under throttle body).

The MAP sensor used to be located away from the throttle body, but, for your year, it should be located on the front of the throttle body.

Well, I got it running after much spitting, stuttering and stalling. May have been water or ice in fuel lines, or it might be the fuel pump. Have to wait and see.

Does anyone know if this engine has problems with burning oil. As I was checking things out discovered I was 2 quarts low on oil and I checked it a week ago.

Well, it's not so much the engine as it is the intake manifold gasket (aka plenum gasket).
You can read the TSB on this issue here. Also, another tell-take sign it to take the air cleaner assembly off, open the butterfly valves on the throttle body, and look down inside. A light oil film is ok, but any more than that, you probably have the plenum gasket problem.
You can also read a DIY on the plenum gasket here. Keep in mind, this was done on a 5.9L Ram, so there may be some differances.
