Hey, just a simple question. I know that throttlebody spacers somehow make a slight amount more horsepower, torque, better fuel efficiency etc... (so I hear). I just want to know how it a simple spacer can accomplish that?

 

A throttle body spacer won't help your 1994.
They really only help carburated, or throttle body fuel injected motors. (The V6's and V8's switched to port fuel injection starting in 1992, not quite sure about the I4's).
It works by mixing the fuel and air together better. The reason it doesn't work on port fuel injected vehicles is the fuel is injected just before the intake valve, versus injecting the fuel in the throttle-body/carb, so theres not enough time to actually mix the fuel/air any "better."

 

Ohh, ok, so the spacer allows for more room for the air and fuel to mix more. Ya, I was confused as to why the spacer would increase horsepower when the throttlebody on magnum engines is just used for air throttling. What is the I 4 injection?

 

I guess I should have clarified when I said:
It works by mixing the fuel and air better, by swirling them essentially.
But either way, it doesn't work on port fuel injected vehicles.

The I4... the four cylinder motors... I'm not quite sure when they switched to port fuel injection, I just know 1996 has it.

 

so if it doesnt work on mpfi, why would they sell it for them? i saw tb spacer for my 93 mpfi, just a gimmick?

 

they make TB spacers just to make money. and they wont tel people that they dnt work on most vehicles o they would go outta business. I dont see how their still in business

 

Why sell them?
What is a concern of mostly every driver these days? The price of gas.
What is the claim they make that gets most people to buy their product: "It will increase MPGs," its another one of those not-fully true, but not-fully false statements.
On certain motors, it can increase mileage and power, on others it won't, or its been dyno'ed as a power-loosing add-on.

 

since we are talking about air intake, what do you think of that "tornado" product? is it the same as the tb spacer?[/align]

 

its even worse[:'(] sure the air spins as its goin through the intake. but as soon as it hits the manifold. it stops spinning. theres no way it helps anything out.

 

I got a tornado for my 96 v8 and tried it out when I was on a business trip. I got 19.5 with the tornado and 19.4 without or something like that. So basically it doesn't work. I did notice an slight increase with a K&N filter.
