May want to go to a V8
They sell, V8 daks around here pretty cheap, seen them as low as $1500, $1000 once but it was f---ed up. I picked up a nice one for $2100 and my '92 Saturn (so $2600). If you know a lot about them you can usually use that to your advantage and get the price lowered. I got a dealer to lower the price on a '93 4x4 from $3995 to $1800 just by knowing what i was talking about (a little fibbing), still didn't buy it, just did it for fun. My '93 2wd was originally listed at $3650, but got 1k knocked off of it just for saying it needed a timing chain (and it didn't LOL).
the swap can be done pretty easy depending on what you plan to do with the truck.if you are gonna drive it normal than the stock trans will work fine, but if you want to bang on the truck than its v-8 tranny time.the wiring can be modded to run the v-8 by adding injector wiring for the 2 extra cylinders and maybe making some of the wiring a litle longer.from what i have heard the exhaust will even bolt up.get a torque converter for the engine you are going to install that fit the a500 trans if auto.and of course you will need a v-8 computer.fuel pump depending on what year you truck is may be the same from v-8 to v-6.this isnt an easy swap but a lot easier than most i have done in the past.small things will need to be modified or v-8 parts installed.i think if you have to pay someone to do the work than it might not be your best move.like a previous post check in to a v-8 truck.
