For anyone that has put a 5.2 or 5.9 into thier V6 dakota. I have the 3.9 and I am soon to be stumbling into some money. I want to put a larger engine in her. I am wondering without sounding dumb what all I will need? I know I will need an engine and a new tranny, but as for mounting up, any malor mods or do they share engine mounts? I am mechanically inclined but not enough for a engine swap so this will be done by a local shop.

I am just wanting to get all the parts I will need so i can just take it in and get it back when they are finished.

 

I believe that the magnum motors all have the same engine mounts. and you'll need the computer and the rad outta a V8 truck. other then that, it should be pretty easy.

 

Sweet that shouldnt be to hard to aquire. I am just skeptical now that I think of it. I am affraid to do what I want to, say I drop in a 318 and bag her like I want. Then I have in total about 7 grand in a truck I can only sell for maybe 1500 to 2000. As bad as I want to do this I may just have to trade her in when I get my bonus. But I will cross that bridge when i get there,

 

ya, if you plan on keeping the truck for a while then do it, but if you wont be keeping it for that long, then it's not worth it.

 

Just found a guy in my area giving away a free 318 because he has to move and cant take it with him. He said it need to be rebuilt
