Default carb. magnum...

Has anyone ever done a carb swap ona 318 magnum? I am getting a long block 318 and dont have the money to buy all of the fuel injection stuff for it. Summit has and edelbrock air gap for 295 and i have a 600 performer already, the only thing i have been wondering about is the ignition, what distributor can i use, will one out of and older la 318 work? I have one of those already, so if it works that would be good. and my transmission... i have a 42re in it now behind the 3.9, but it needs the computer to shift dont it? if it will shift without the comp. i will use it till i can get a 46rh for it. i have a 727 too, but with gas how it is now i am not ready for a 3 speed in it. i am going to go to the junkyard later on this week to see if they have any more dakotas out there, i would really like a 5 speed in it, all i would need would be the tranny, flywheel, clutch assembly, brake/clutch pedal assembly, and the master cylinder right? plus if i get a 5 speed i can throw a bigger cam in it and not need a stall converter[8D].

The Edelbrock intakes are designed for LA blocks and won't work on the magnums. Very different heads.

it is the edelbrock intake for the magnum....... which is more expensive than the $195 for the LA!

There is an intake from proffesional products which is called a crosswind and it looks just like the performer RPM airgap except for the thermostat location(AC interference)but it fits both the LA and Magnum heads and they are all over e-bay for $150. I've had several of them.
