I just did my water pump last Sat. and the new pump from NAPA came with a new pipe and o-ring. I couldn't figure out whether the o-ring just sat on top of the hole or went in. so I went ahead and pushed it in with a little Vaseline (no jokes plz). The outer edge of the o-ring tore off but it seemed like a ok seal. But now it seeps a little. I'll try a new o-ring soon and post the results. BTW I'm trying to sell it.

 

so where does the o ring go?

i think i am goign to get everything i need, i only have 1 day to get this fixed, as i need to go back to base on saturday

also, what is tyhat little boss on the top of the pump? i see the stock one has it, but the replacements dont have it, looks liek it protrudes 1 "

and, how do i getthe coolant out? i just put in new coolant and want to reuse it.... i thought i had a bad upper hose and tensioner, well, i replaced those, and hten found out the water pump pulley rubbed the housing and moved back and forth about an inch!

 

If I know what boss your talking about that will be for the heater tube return line, which is were the O-Ring goes. Also don't be scared to start a new thread instead of pulling up an old one.

 

i'm not scared... just hate when people don't do any searching and then want spoon fed answers....

i am in a tight spot, so that is an issue.... but i tried searching, haha, made me ask more questions, lol

it appears some come with it some do not?

if i don't get one with the pump, how do i reuse the old one? is it a good idea to reuse it? what about the o-ring, it looks like there is possibly rtv in one of those pics? what about that?

 

also, how do i drain the coolant? i have the FSM, but it says to use the radiator petcock, and the block drains, but i never saw a radiator petcock, anyone got a picture of it, or can tell me where to look for it?

 

If I remember right that insert threads in. Just remove yours and insert yours. Here is quick pic.

that boss attaches to a hose and it is above the pump, liek right in the middle, not bellow it where that longer metal tube is


also, it says to use an o-ring for that pipe, and i plan to get the pipe, but i don't know anything about the o-ring for it....

 

but then again, maybe i am wrong and it is jsut the way the picture is? i have read that (i think) it isnt threaded in, but pulls out, however some people have better luck rotating it side to side whiel they are pulling it out
