First big problem you'll have is the magnum intake won't bolt to the la heads..the holes are angled different.

Other issue is motor mounts....the magnum has both sets...front and mid. The LA only has the one set. I don't think it'll be a direct drop in.

Here's a decent link for what's interchangeable and what's not.

It can be done, but your old 318 won't be as powerful as the Magnum motor your '93 had, at least not stock. What's wrong with your '93 motor? Could you swap parts to repair the '93 motor?

For what you have to do, you might as well swap in something besides a 318 ... this is like "I have a Chevy 350, wanna swap in an Olds 350, does it drop in?"

Robertmee has one of the sources you can use; Schumacher ( http://www.engine-swaps.com/Pages/Pr....96Dakota.html ) has some of the parts you'll need; but you'll also have to either get the heads cross drilled to swap to fuel injection, or convert to carbed.

You're lucky at that - a year or two earlier, and it might have been an A block 318 with the polyspherical heads, not the LA block 318!

Might do better selling the old 318, using it to purchased a used 5.2 Magnum to replace the "no good" 5.2 you have, and getting the new 5.2 rebuilt.

You can also swap in a 5.9 Magnum (360); that will give a nice kick.

Hughes Engines ( www.hughesengines.com ) is one place you can find a stroker kit; take that "no good" 5.2 to 390cid, REALLY wake the truck up *grins*

(And if you absolutely positively MUST go backwards; find a 340.)
