squeaky belt *fixed*
I've had this problem off and on for some time. It has no ryme or reason. I've replaced the belt. I've used Gates, some off brand from autozone and even one from Chrysler. It squeels going 70 or at idle. day or night, hot or cold. It'll be loud one minute and quite the next. I've replace the tensioner and idler pullies. Belt dressing makes it 100X louder.
Any thoughts?

I'd say try pulling the belt and clean all of the pulleys really well. My belt was pretty squeaky for a while after wheeling out in PA and got a little better after I cleaned the engine but I did not pull the belt off and get the pulleys as clean as I could. I'd say some simple greee and a hose would do wonders.
Well damn! I figured it out. I put my stethoscope back on it. The noise was coming from the water pump. So I thought. I replaced that. Lifetime warentee, so I was just out antifreeze. It needed flushing anyway.2 hour job. Not bad. Cranked her up. Still squeeling. Replace pullies. Started with the idler. Not it either. Oh, and I cleaned off all pullies with a degrreaser last week. That wasen't it either. I'd had enough. I took it to the mechanic who knows me by now. He put his stethoscope on it. At first he thought it was the altinator. Then the A/c compressor( I was waiting for that one). He couldn't be sure. We changed the belt. The noise changed. But was still there.He put a Gator Back on it and it quit!I was happy and pissed at the same time. I have had 3 diffrent belts on it. 2 gates and one 3 month warentee no name. They all did the same thing. Squeel!
The lesson learned is this. The most expensive is not always the best.
Gates=$55
Goodyear=$29
Now I can sneak up on my teenagers again.

My guess is that you have freed up the idler pulley with so many replacements. My bet is that it comes back but lets hope not! Good luck!!
