Default Engin or transmission acting up (missfiring or skipping) on a 99 Durango

My 99 5.9L Durango isn't running right. It started acting up yesterday. All I can say is that when lightly to moderatly accelerating, the truck starts to buck lightly and sporatically. Sometimes it will do it, sometimes it won't. It has been getting more and more frequent since yesterday. The only time I can duplicate it for sure is when lightly accelerating up a hill in 5th (or whatever the highest gear is) gear. It's almost like the engine is stumbling a little like it needs a tune up but it seems to only do it in 5th gear so could it possibly be the tranny?? The plug wires, distributor and rotor are about 10 months old, the spark plugs are only 1 month old (bosch platinums) and the engine light never comes on. I did a basic eyeball check for a loose plug wire or something causing a missfire but everything is tight. Do these things have a coolant temp sensor that the ECU heavily relies upon like my BMW?

Any suggestions on what could possibley be the problem would be greatly apprecieated. I am also debating what to take it to first for diagnosis if I can't find and fix the problem - the tranny repair shop or the dealership.

Thanks.

You answered your own question. You put those bosch plat's in. They are garbage. Pull them out and put some Champions in and you'll be doing just fine. I couldn't even keep my engine running with those things in.

Thanks. The Plats have been fine up until now but I'll put some champions in to give it a try. If it isn't the problem, it's not like I would have wasted a ton of money.

trust me the bosh plats are the problem, my truck had them in it when i bought it and it was misfiring and idling rough all the time, and acting up so to speak in general, i put the champion stock plugs back into it and now it runs fine, in fact it runs like new

I have the same problem with my 02 r/t. At highway speed it comes in and out of lock up for no reason. I have the recommanded plugs and it started to do this only around 65-70mph only on flat roads. From what I am hearing its a Dodge thing. But have heard to change the tps and check the alt. and battery. Any other help would be great.

Ok just an update. Last week the engine light came on and the code was for the Cam position sensor. So yesterday I replaced the sensor as well as the plugs. So right now I have both a new cam censor and new champion plugs all gapped to .040". Took the truck for a test run last night and it was perfect and smooth as can be. I tested all loads and terrain and could simulate the problem.

However, today I was driving and it came back! Again, the truck 'feels' like it starts to miss ONLY when traveling in the highest tranny gear while going up very gradual hills. Once it shifts to a lower gear, all is well. When cruising in the highest gear everything is also just fine. It's only when there is medium/high load when traveling in the highest gear. The transmission was fully rebuilt about 2 years ago so I doubt I’s that. It feels like an engine problem.

Any more suggestions??

TPS or and IAS sensor. Fully clean the Throttle Body and these sensors. Reinstall it and try that.

What recommended Plugs are you using?
