ChrisHackIT 2000 Durango SLT 4.7l V8 Problems
Here are my D problems I have encountered in the last 3 weeks. Your help and imput is greatly appreciated. [:@][:@][:@]
To Start, here are the repairs done by Universal Auto Techs In Toronto Canada, in the last week.
- Bought 4 Brand new tires No Name but the mechanic said it was a Yokohoma Knock off.
- I did all 4 shock all around (Monroe Sense-Trac) and the truck rides like a bull and handles poorly.
- I did brakes all the way around, the fronts are good but the brakes in the back stick even when I press the brake softly it locks up anf the ABS light comes on.
- I bought 2 rear drums
- Oil change
Here are myproblems to this day.[:@]
- The shocks ride and handlelike crap[:@]
-The rear brakes lock up or feel like they are dragging (feels like one side is doing 70% of the braking)
- When I am driving on the highway thetruck is lacking powereven going up a hillorwhen the weather is cloudy and damp the truck has no ***** like before, or power.
- Now I am gettting front end vibration when I am driving on the highway at a 120km
- When I punch it on the highwaythe truck whines loud and the rpms go up but the speed goes up slowly and it feels boogy and not enough power.
-The front right side is very sloppy when i am driving it bounces and somethimes I hear noises.?
If you all could give me some suggestions or help I would gladly appriciate it I am seriously thinking about sellingmy durangobut if I get it back into shape I might just keepher and save the money from buying a Caddy Escalade[:@]
When I first got this truck is was fast of the line and had lots of power with out any hesitationwhen I punch it on the highway it was smooth and very quick.
I want to do some mods after these problems are solved. Any suggestions????????? Please HELP!!!!
Thanks so much all,

imo your back drums probably need to be adjusted and thats why they are so touchy, but by the same token, the origional drums on my moms 02 durango are the same way so maybe the ones you had taken off were just that badly worn . . .
for the front end vibration i would make sure that your front pads are letting go when you let off of the brake, try turning the front wheel by hand and see how easy or hard it is to turn, should be relatively easy, and if its not try putting some brake lube on the rails that the pads ride on to loosen them up
/\
this could also be robbing power from your d, especially if you have lost some mpg's since this started happening
and did the brake shop replace the rotors when they did the brake job, or did they just turn them?? they should have been replaced, because it sounds like they have warped since you got them as you said your front end was vibrating, this would be caused by the rotors heating up when the brake pads hang up on them and ur driving
and put a set of reflex shocks on it, the sens-a-trac are realatively cheap, oem or worse quality shocks, and your front right side has a bad shock on it maybe causing it to be so sloppy or bouncy, i know my front end seemed awfully bad w/o any shock so if your shock is bad it would be very similar good luck and let us know what happens

RE: ChrisHackIT 2000 Durango SLT 4.7l V8 Problems
All the parts I have replaced are brand new and still under warrenty..IE: brakes, rotors, brakes shoes(Rear), drums, tires, shocks, did the manifold gasgets, still sluggish when driving, and bouncing with them **** monroe sensi-trac shocks. I am pissed at the Universal auto tech shop in Richmond Hill Ontario. the owner's name is George Sofos. (greek dude)
I havent done a tune up and there is no check engine lights on that does not mean that there are problems with my D. [:@][:@][:@][:@][:@]

I suggest you check all of the rubber bushesin your front suspension - a 2000 D is now a 7 year old vehicle...
I have a 99 5.9l D here in Saudi...and I have now virtually had the vehicle rebuilt and learned more about D's than I ever wanted to...
your PCM could be coming to the end of its life...I've had mine replaced and it breathed fire into the vehicle...
I'm afraid when a D gets to this age it basically starts to throw problems at you...and you've got to have the patience, time and bluntly money to sort it all out.
My D drives and handles like a dream...I enjoy it every day...but the cost to get it there has been prohibitive and only possible due to my expat status.
Even now it's back in the workshop for its 140,000 km service which then threw out issues such as leaking rear brake cylinders, leaking oil seal on differential, collapsed transmission mounting...
My advice...sell it for what you can get and buy a used vehicle from a reputable dealer which still has a warranty...and I suggest going for something a little less gas hungry...
alternatively...take it and your credit card to a reputable Dodge dealer and get them to sort out the problems one by one...the bill may be astronomic but if you hold onto the vehicle you may recoup some of the expense assuming that nothing else blows up...
