Changing tranny fluid
I want to change the tranny fluid, but I've never done it before so I want some pointers on what to do, and what to look out for.
Just drop and clean the pan, pull off the old filter, put the new one in. Place the new gasket on the pan, and re-install.....fill 3.8 litres (4 quarts)....check fluid levels with tranny at regular operating temp while in neutral. Is there anything else involved?
is the pan gasket and filter a stealership only part?? I've read this before somewhere on here but I can't find it, should I use ATF 3 or 4 fluid??

Year, motor, and trans would be nice. Check the owners manual for the right fluid. I think 2000 and up had ATF+4 and down had ATF+3. You can go down to your auto parts dealer for your parts. If you use cork gaskets make sure you use wheel grease on both sides of the gasket to seal it and nothing else. If using rubber (which I prefer) then just put a little fluid on it to lubricate it. But without the info I'm not quite sure on amount of fluid you will need. If you replace the filter then you will need about 2 quarts more than just a fluid change because fluid will flow out of your valve body.

i got the filters, fluid, but no gasket.....the service desk told me they just use silicone
When refilling the tranny with fluid, where do I pour the fluid??

Hell no. [:@]
Don't use silicone on it you don't need it. Just lube the gasket before installation. Don't over tighten the bolts as this leads to warping of the pan.The best way to keep the bolts from comming lose is to spray the threads on the bolt and into the cast with brake cleaner and let them dry and place a small amout of silicone on the bolts before installation.
I'm sorry I should have looked at your sig. [8D]
Anyway, you fill the trany through the dip stick for the auto trans fluid. Don't over fill it because the only way to get it out is by removing the pan again and it is a messy job to do it twice.

Man the more I look into this I'm finding that this application needs a inline transmission filter and not a in body filter. I can see were getting out of context. So [sm=wtf.gif][sm=helpout.gif]
