Default Band adjustment / did I screw up?

2001 5.9L with 46RE trans. Did the band adjustments with an inch / pound torque wrench with 1.5 inch extention and proper Torx. Front band was ajusted to 72inches and the backed off a full 2 7/8 turns. Dropped pan, added drain plug ( 5 bucks at pep boys) and adjusted square head to 72 inch / pounds, backed out 2full turnsand tighened lock nut.

At medium and full throttle the tranny shifts fine. No binding or over reving what so ever. When returning from the test ride ( low speed ) tranny hesitated in first gear 4 to 5 times and wouldnt shift into second until I gave it a little throttle.

Fluid was checked before and after. It is right on. Prior to adjustment the truck would over rev on the one two shift for a split second. Adjustments to the TV made this almost go away prior to the band adjustment. Do I need a TV adjustment again? Is this hesitation between 1-2 mean I did something wrong to the bands? I did this twice to be surewith same results. I want to put in the fast man valve body but want to make sure tranny is healthy first.

Any thoughts tranny guys?

1st I always adjust the bands with the pan off, I have been doing for such a long time, I don't need the torque wrench. Just by feel, 1/4 to 1/2 inch of freeplay. And adjust TV by road test.

It was the TV. With the bands out of adjustment the last putz that tried to fix it said my TV was binding. Wrong, he also told my the 46RE had no bands! Like I said, Putz! When I got the bands adjusted properly the TV was WAY off. I adjusted it and the D shifts very well. I reset the computer and drove it for a day and it actually shifted better as the day was going on. I wonder how many people have had a total tranny replacement for simple band adjustment?

I have a question on band adjustments. I have gat a 2000 slt with a 5.9 engine. The first gear slips and is getting worse with time. Will a simple band adjustment take care of this issue. And is there any thing else i need to do to get my d shifting well again.

It may not. You can try. But maybe to late because the clutches may have hot spot on them.
