ABS and Brake Lights On
Well I have it at a shop. They said it had a 68 and a 74 code. Fixed it and the lights came back on. Is there anyone here that could tell me what is going on or lead me in the right direction..I am throwing money away for this POS SUV
I think "wrecked SUV" is more like it. I would DEFINITLY be fighting the insurance on this one. YOUR insurance will fight for you. If it didn't do it before the wreck, it is more than likely a product of the wreck.
I am going to bring it to my Insurance company attention. They know already about the screw up with the boots and having to take it back. I refuse to bring it to the same guys since they know crap about mechanical work let alone body.
I have the guy that just tried to fix it bring it to someone else. HE was unable to find it and did not charge me. I trust him and he is a stand up mechanic. He does not know how much it is going to cost this other mechanic who only does ABS systems. After he gets done I will give the bill to the Insurance company and have them deal with it.

Alright fellas. I have a similar yet differant issue with my 1999 Durango 5.9 4x4. The ABS light and brake light are on the ABS is not working. The brake pedel smashes in about a foot before it grabs and if pressed hard the brakes lock up. I checked the ABS fuse its good, the lights come on as I roll out of the garage not when the truck is started. Is this one of the 3 sensors or a ABS issue. I will test the sensors this week end. Thanks for your help D
Have you done any work like changing a wheel cylinder or rebuilding a Caliper...Did this just happen without any brake work? If it was because of the first reason I would try bleeding the brakes and maybe having a power bleeding system used. If not then I would think you are having a Servo problem.
Before Ibecame a Paramedic I was a Mechanic since the 60's. I Have not really kept up with all the latest stuff since about 95 so I am no expert on the new electronic stuff. I go by the basic stuff first before the electronic problem.
I would think you have or had a leak and it was not bled right.

Ill try bleeding them first. I didnt do any work the the brake system but some thing funny happened. When my wife told me about the problem I popped the hood and the resivor cap was missing. Can air get in the system like that? Thanks D
I would imagine it could. Because the cap was missing I would clear all of theo ld fluid out and replace it with some fresh stuff since brake fluid absorbs moisture in the air.
I agree with the moisture and if the fluid was missing altogether or below the port you could have air in the system. If the cap is like I think, it has an accordion type of rubber gasket in it. Has the fluid goes down the rubber also pushes out to keep the FUD from slopping around and keep a certain amount of air displacement in the master.
That's why if you look usually the front brake part of the master you see the fluid down and you have to push back into place that rubber gasket.
